Xerox 6110MFP and Snow Leopard - WORKS!

I had a friend install Snow Leopard, Apples new Operating System.
It killed his Xerox MFP 6110 Machine.

I make this long story very short.

Leave the current printer in the system.
Go add the printer again, this time making a NEW QUEUE for that printer using the OLD driver. This is the final resolution to making my Xerox 6110 MFP work correctly.
Once I had this working, I shared it out on the network and the rest of the 10.6 computers could print without any problems.

When recreating the printer - it kept using the same queue which led me to believe it was using the old or incorrect driver - this is why I say make a new queue with the old driver - as it showed the original driver as the one being used - and it worked like a champ. It would auto-add the other printer on reboot, although it still would not print correctly. Something to do with the specific Queue itself.

This is what I had done previous to the above mentioned:

It did not like the drivers previously installed and would not print.

I deleted all the printers, readded the printer using the built in driver (appears it copied it over from OSX 10.5 into 10.6, although the first time you check yoru printer - it tells you that it needs an updated printer driver).

I followed the steps here:
http://techblog.lucidillusion.org/2009/09/04/xerox-phaser-6120-on-mac-os-x-10-6-snow-leopard/

You will have to goto the website listed and download the custom PPD driver.
Once you have downloaded this, make sure its somewhere you can find it - and if Safari or anything else appended a .TXT to it, take it off.

Go back to add a new printer, this time after it tries to autoselect the printer, change it and go load the custom PPD you just downloaded.

I did notice that the icon of the printer changed and that it does print a little different - but all appears to be working as it should.

When recreating the printer - it kept using the same queue which led me to believe it was using the old or incorrect driver - this is why I say make a new queue with the old driver - as it showed the original driver as the one being used - and it worked like a champ. IF NONE OF THIS FIXES YOUR PROBLEM...
I suggest trying to install the Rosetta app that comes on the Snow Leopard DVD.
Follow the threads on Apple or do a google search on it.

This is the original Apple thread I was reading:

PMU Shutdown Cause -122

Is your Apple Xserve Server going down at random with a "cause code" of -122 from the PMU?

I had done a little digging after one of our servers kept going down without any reason and no warning.

To make a long story short - check to see if you have a UPS (APC or otherwise) plugged into the Server - either USB or Serial (most likely USB) - unplug that and see if it helps.

For some reason - from what I read, the UPS sends out incorrect information about its runtime - or the server cant' think it can run in that allotted time so it just shuts off. Not a shutdown, a "pulled the power plug" kinda off.

Sync iCal and iPhone with Google Calander

Since I left my last position where we had an Exchange server setup to sync all our stuff... well, now that I do not have that - I will want the functionality on a personal level... which I found out Google can help you accomplish this...

The process is very straight forward... I will try to add pictures later.
Including links from Gmail Support for setting these devices up...

First things first - you need to make sure you have your Google calendar setup and ready to go -if you do not have a Google account - or checked your calendar, I suggest you do that before continuing on.

Instructions from Google:
http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=99358#ical

To get the iCal in OSX to work right - we add the following info into iCal:
Preferences > Accounts - Create a new account - name it Gmail or something similar.
Your username and password are as follows:
Username: user@gmail.com
Password: your password
Click the down-arrow and fill in the selected URL for the calendar server:
https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/@gmail.com/user

Once this is done, iCal will go sync with Google - if there is anything in there to sync.

To get the iPhone working - you have to set it up as an Exchange Account - and on iPhones, since you are only allowed a single Exchange account - if you use it for work and using Exchange - this might not work for you.

To get this done on your iPhone, follow these steps.
http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=138740

If you need help, message me.
One thing to note, when entering your user/password, the username is always user@gmail.com - they showed user@googlemail.com and I kept getting bad password responses.

So far its working great - is quick to update. If you are running Entourage - you can set it to sync with iCal so you can have those dates transferred to your phone/Google calender as well.

Don't try to setup mail when setting up the iPhone - the only thing Google allows is Contacts and Calenders.
